Job Opening: Web-based Database Applications Specialist for GeneCards

A position is available with Prof. Doron Lancet, of the Department of Molecular Genetics, at The Weizmann Institute of Science, in Israel. Professor Lancet is Ralph D. and Lois Silver Professor of Neurogenomics and head of the Crown Human Genome Center .

The position is for an exceptional software engineer to design and develop the next generation of the popular GeneCards database of human genes.

Responsibilities

  • Taking ownership for data modeling and data optimization
  • design, implement and deliver the next generation of GeneCards
  • design db stress test scenarios and assist QA team in assuring best quality
  • document specifications and interfaces

Required Background

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science (or Developers degree from Mamram School of Computers, or equivalent).
  • At least 3 years of strong experience in Object Oriented Design and Databases
  • Expertise in web application development, technologies and languages essential
  • MySQL, Apache, XML, PHP, ORM and OLAP knowledge highly desirable
  • A good understanding of molecular biology and/or genetics considered a plus
  • Good English skills
  • Strong communication skills
